1. Patient Rights
A. Right to Receive Medical Care
Patients have the right to receive appropriate health and medical services to protect and promote their own health. Their rights concerning health shall not be infringed upon on the basis of gender, age, religion, social status, economic circumstances, or other reasons, and medical personnel may not refuse treatment without justifiable cause.
B. Right to Know and Right to Self-Determination
Patients may receive sufficient explanation from their attending physician, nurses, and others regarding their condition, treatment methods, whether they are subject to medical research, whether organ transplantation is involved, expected outcomes such as side effects, and treatment costs, and may ask detailed questions. They have the right to decide whether to consent to such matters.
C. Right to Protection of Confidentiality
Patients shall not have their physical or health-related secrets or their privacy infringed upon in connection with medical care. Medical personnel and medical institutions may not divulge or disclose such secrets except with the patient's consent or in cases prescribed by law, such as criminal investigations.
D. Right to Request Counseling and Mediation
In the event of a dispute related to medical services, patients may apply for counseling and mediation with bodies such as the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency.
2. Patient Responsibilities
A. Duty to Trust and Respect Medical Personnel
Patients shall accurately inform medical personnel of information related to their health and shall trust and respect the medical personnel's treatment plan.
B. Duty Not to Receive Care by Improper Means
Patients shall disclose their identity before treatment and shall not receive medical care through false or improper means, such as receiving care under another person's name.
